TYRI Sweden Invests in Solar Energy – 37% of Electricity Needs Covered

TYRI Sweden has taken a significant step towards a more sustainable operation by installing solar panels on the roof of its factory in Gothenburg. Now producing 37% of its electricity needs in-house, the initiative reduces energy costs while contributing to a greener future—a true win-win, according to Kjell Ljungström, Development Manager and Co-Founder of TYRI Sweden AB.

At TYRI, sustainability is an integral part of the business. Producing high-quality lights for large, hard-working vehicles requires energy, and TYRI strives to ensure that energy is as green and sustainable as possible. In the spring of 2024, TYRI took a major step toward a sustainable future by installing solar panels on the factory roof in Gothenburg. This initiative enables the company to generate 37% of its electricity needs on-site, benefiting both the business and the environment.

“By producing our electricity on-site, we not only reduce our dependence on purchased energy but also ensure a significant portion of our energy use is renewable. Generating power where it is consumed minimizes energy loss during transportation, increasing efficiency and further reducing our environmental impact,” says Kjell Ljungström, who spearheaded the solar panel installation project.

The solar panels are more than just an efficient solution—they symbolize TYRI’s commitment to a greener future. With an annual production of 122 MWh, the panels reduce reliance on external energy sources and lower carbon emissions.

TYRI’s total energy consumption is 423 MWh per year. Thanks to the solar panels, 37% of this energy is now renewable and self-produced. The remaining electricity is sourced from external providers, with 65% derived from fossil-free nuclear power and 35% from renewable sources. This means that over half of TYRI’s energy mix is renewable and entirely fossil-free. Additionally, heating needs are met with biogas, which is 100% renewable and fossil-free.

“This means our entire energy use—electricity and heating—is fossil-free and largely renewable. It’s an achievement we’re proud of, but we see it as just the beginning,” Kjell adds.

The investment in solar panels delivers value on multiple levels. In addition to reducing energy costs, it actively combats climate change.

“We see this as a win-win situation: we gain cheaper energy while reducing our carbon footprint. It’s an example of how businesses can combine profitability with responsibility, and we hope to inspire others to do the same,” says Kjell.

TYRI believes in a brighter future—both literally and figuratively—and is determined to continue making sustainable choices.
