Choosing the Right LED Lights: Are All LEDs Made Equal?

Choosing the right LED lights for your application can be challenging, often leading to decisions based primarily on price. Unfortunately, some manufacturers produce low-cost LED work lights with cheap components and lack proper quality control. This could mean that the level of brightness, colour temperature, or lifespan may not meet your expectations for the application. There may also be large variances between individual units.

TYRI manufactures work lights of the highest quality, so you can have the utmost confidence that our lighting will stand up to the toughest applications.

The image shows a TYRI 1010 Hi CRI lamp switched on.Lumen Output

Manufacturers often list the lumen output of a lamp as theoretical, but only effective/measured output should be considered. Some manufacturers use theoretical lumen values to over-inflate their light’s capabilities, which will not be achieved in real-world applications.

TYRI measures effective lumens only, to give a true reflection of the light emitted. Effective lumens provide a true measurement of the LED light output that you can expect in real-world conditions, ensuring that the lighting meets the actual needs of the application. TYRI ensures you receive a lighting solution that meets your expectations and needs.

IP Rating

At TYRI we have our own in-house Light Lab where our lights are put through rigorous testing in all areas. IP ratings classify the degree of protection provided against ingress from dust, water, and other contaminants. IP 69K – means the product is protected from dust ingress and high pressure/steam-jet cleaning.

The vast majority of TYRI lights meet the IP69K rating, ensuring that the work lights you install have undergone rigorous tests for durability and the highest standards of protection against water, moisture, and dust ingress, providing complete peace of mind.

False Quality Statements

Some work lights claim they use premium LEDs or other well-known parts, to give you a false sense that you are buying a quality product. Low-cost lights are made with low-cost components, and this is reflected in the price.

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)

All work lights emit an electromagnetic field which can interfere with other systems. Testing to ensure your work light’s electromagnetic field remains at a near-undetectable level is essential. This ensures the lights do not affect the control systems, cameras, onboard computers, and other radio-sensitive equipment. This is why we extensively test TYRI lights to ensure they do not interfere with EMC functionality.

Housing

The heat produced by LED work lights significantly affects their performance, making it the biggest challenge to overcome in design and manufacturing.

TYRI lights have large cooling fins which are necessary to effectively dissipate the generated heat and prevent damage to the LEDs. They also have built-in temperature sensing circuits that reduce the output to regulate the temperature of the light. This prevents damage to the LEDs that can result in premature failure.

TYRI lights undergo rigorous salt spray testing to ensure they are approved to ASTMB117 standards. This ensures that even in corrosive environments, TYRI lights will continue to perform.

Connectors

Some low-cost LED work lights will have a spade connector rather than a Deutsch connector. The spade connector is less expensive to produce but also less reliable. It can allow water to ingress the connection and therefore prevent the light from working. We supply all TYRI lights with high-quality Deutsch connectors.

Light Pattern

Buying low-cost LEDs online can mean the substandard light they do emit doesn’t light up the work area where you need it most.

Light patterns are not a one-size-fits-all solution; they make a variety of different diffusion options possible. TYRI offers an average of five different light patterns per model to provide a professional lighting solution for different machinery. Using our expertise, TYRI advises our customers on the best light patterns for their applications. We ensure you have the most effective light to meet your needs.

TYRI Quality Assured

TYRI provides a world-class product range at the forefront of lighting technology, as well as collaborating with OEMs as a design partner, all over the world.

Our experts in R&D and TYRI’s light lab, design and test our lights extensively. They undergo vibration, environmental (heat and humidity) , and shock testing. We also test TYRI Lights for their IP rating and electromagnetic compatibility, as mentioned above.

Our meticulous attention to detail, coupled with high-quality materials and production techniques, are essential for providing our customers with the best light solutions and user experience on the market.
